Grupo Kibabo has just opened its new two-storey shopping mall in Luanda. The mall has twelve stores, including a Kibabo supermarket, the group’s third.
A new 20,000m² shopping centre opened this week in downtown Luanda, following a $5 million investment from Grupo Kibabo. The mall, which stands very close to Casa dos Frescos supermarket, has two floors and twelve stores, including two group brands, a Kibabo supermarket and a Kitec store. Apart from these, other tenancies include a house furniture and decoration store, shoe stores, a pharmacy, electronics outlets, among others. The new mall will create 200 new jobs.
The group’s president, Pedro Mateus stated, during the inauguration ceremony, that after the opening of the new store, the group will focus on diversifying the products on offer and maintaining “competitive prices, even under the current market constraints.”
Kibabo is an Angolan-based group focused on retail management projects and resulting from a partnership between distributor STOKA and the Portuguese company Mateus. The new store is the group’s third venture into the retail sector, according to Trendtype’s Retail Database Tracker. The group was first introduced to the market in 2012 with its store in Palanca, Luanda and a second outlet opened in Viana. Although grocery was the group’s first venture into retail and is currently the greatest part of the its operation, the group’s other banners, namely Kitec and Kasaki have been leveraging results. Kitec and Kasaki sell furniture, electronics and household appliances from well-known brands such as Samsung or Philips. According to Mateus, “Angolan consumers have been increasingly demanding for branded and better quality furniture and electrical utilities”, with sales growing on both.
