Egyptian takeaway food ordering platform raises $10m in pre-Series C funding

Jul 15, 2021

Elmenus, the Egyptian takeaway food ordering platform, has raised $10m in a pre-Series C funding round led by e-payments platform Fawry. Founded in 2011, Cairo-based Elmenus has now raised $19.5m in total. It allows consumers to see information and order food from 12,000 restaurants in Egypt.

At the end of 2019, Elmenus started operating as a food delivery platform and built its own delivery fleet. The company says that its food ordering business grew 4x over the past year, as customers heavily used online services in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Elmenus raised $8m in a Series B investment in February 2020. David Buttress, the former CEO of Just Eat, became an investor and joined the board to help guide its aggressive expansion strategy.

Elmenus will use the $10m from its pre-Series C funding to expand into more cities in Egypt. It will also look to develop more personalisation in its discovery tool for consumers and provide tools to help businesses scale. Currently the company has 1.5m users in Egypt.
