Japanese-inspired lifestyle retailer Miniso opens in Rwanda

Jun 15, 2021

Miniso has opened its first store in Rwanda, in the Kigali Business Center in the Kigali neighbourhood of Kimihurura. It is Miniso’s 9th market in Africa. It is a major coup for the shopping mall, which opened in August 2018 and lacked a major international retail tenant.

Miniso already has stores in Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania. Globally it operates in 80 countries and has 4,200 retail outlets.

Miniso plans to open more stores in Rwanda, perhaps as early as late 2021. It also wants to launch an ecommerce site. Initially, consumers will be offered a 10% discount on launch for a range of goods, including toys, homewares, kitchen goods and appliances.
