Leader Price adds its ninth store in Madagascar

Dec 4, 2019

Leader Price
Leader Price, the Casino-owned discounter franchise, has opened a new outlet in Madagascar. The new store opening, in the Anosizato area of Antananarivo means that the chain has nine outlets in the country, of which six are in the capital.

Leader Price is expanding its store network rapidly in Madagascar – in 2019 franchise holder Distribution Leader Price Madagascar has opened 3 new outlets. As well as its Antananarivo stores in it has supermarkets in Majunga, Tamatave and the tourist island of Nosy Be, off the north coast of the island. Leader Price offers click and collect across all of its stores.

The new Anosizato store has a retail floorspace of around 1,500m² and includes a bakery counter, meat and fish counter and a deli counter selling cooked meats and cheese.

In July 2019, Groupe Casino sold its Indian Ocean subsidiary, Vindémia, for €219m to Groupe Bernard Hayot (GBH), a French conglomerate with operations across Africa. The sale included sixty stores in Madagascar under the Supermaki (convenience), Score and Jumbo Score (supermarkets/hypermarkets) banners (but does not include the Leader Price franchise).
