Monoprix Tunisia
Casino’s Monoprix has just opened a new store in Sousse, Tunisia, expanding its network in the city to six stores. This is Monoprix’s 89th outlet in the country as the retailer comes closer to its goal for 2020.

Monoprix, the supermarket chain owned by French retailer Casino, has just opened a new store in the seaside city of Sousse, in Tunisia. This increases the chain’s total network in the city to six stores. According to our dashboard on the modern grocery retailers in Tunisia, Monoprix is the second leading supermarket chain in Sousse, only behind Carrefour, who leads the market in both number of stores and floorspace. Carrefour has a total of nine stores in Sousse, between the Carrefour Market and Carrefour and occupies almost 10,000m² of retail floorspace.

The new store in Sousse is Monoprix’s 89th outlet in Tunisia and adds 1,400m² to the company’s portfolio in the country. Monoprix has been steadily expanding its store network. Last June, the company opened a new and larger outlet in the northern city of Mateur. The expansion is placing the retailer well on its way to achieve the goal it set a year ago, when it announced plans to increase its store network in Tunisia to 100 stores by 2020.

In addition to the investments in physical expansion, Monoprix has also bet on the growth of online grocery shopping in Tunisia by launching its Click & Collect service for online orders. According to Trendtype’s data on eCommerce retail sales in Africa, Tunisia is not among the top 10 countries with highest online retail sales, with a total value of sales through online channels amounting to $65.3 million. However, looking at percentage values of online sales, the country figures closer to the top list.

Apart from Tunisia, Monoprix is also present in other countries in Africa, including Libya and Mauritius. In Tunisia, brand owner Casino partners with local company La Société Nouvelle Maison De La Ville De Tunis (SNMVT) to run its Monoprix franchise.
