Pizza Hut partners with Jumia in Nigeria to improve distribution

Pizza Hut, Africa
Pizza Hut has partnered with Jumia in Nigeria to improve its distribution. The partnership aims to support expansion in Lagos, where Pizza Hut has three outlets, as well as entry into Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.

Pizza Hut entered Nigeria in December 2018. Franchisee Marathon Restaurant Africa currently operates three outlets in Nigeria, all of which are in Lagos. Pizza Hut is some distance behind rival Domino’s, which entered Nigeria in August 2012 and operates in five cities and has 38 outlets.

The attraction of Jumia’s Food takeaway delivery platform is the speed and breadth of distribution. The company claims that average delivery times are a class-leading 45 minutes or less. Jumia Food currently operates in across Lagos and in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.

The partnership also helps identify the strategic direction for Jumia too, whose high IPO value rests on its successful transition from being simply a retailer to a platform provider to a logistics solution too. Trendtype tracks almost 100 fast food chains in Nigeria, a key growth market for domestic and international QSR chains alike.
