A new 10,000m² shopping center has opened in Ben Aknoun, west of Algiers. The new mall’s anchor tenant is the Bia Market supermarket, an Irish-Algerian joint venture. The mall has parking capacity for 400 vehicles and features a food court, as well as lifestyle and clothing shops.
Ben Aknoun is an leafy, upmarket area popular with the Algerian elite and senior government figures. The new mall, planned since 2014, has been built by Société Tedjini Construction (SOTEDCO), an Algerian property investment company. It is just the fifth modern shopping mall in Algeria: the others are Bab Ezzouar, City Center, Ardis and Garden City. Retail brands in the mall include Adidas, Kiabi, Jennyfer, Pimkie and Okaidi.
The new mall opened on the 24th August 2019. It is a step up for Bia Market, which has operated in Algeria since 2012 and has three stores in the country. Details of the supermarket have not been released but we estimate it has around 1,000m² of retail space and includes the usual selection of fresh meat and cheese counters as well as an in-store bakery.
