Two of the leading mobile operators in Togo, TogoCel and Moov, have rolled out new 4G services. Both companies have aggressive growth targets to extend coverage across major cities.

In June 2018, the  Togo’s Authority of Posts & Telecommunications Regulation (ART&P) granted two mobile operators, market leader TogoCel and Moov (a subsidiary of Maroc Telecom) 4G licenses. In early July 2018, Moov launched its service. TogoCel followed 3 weeks later, launching its own 4G service.

Moov is aiming to recruit 200,000 users on its 4G network by the end of 2018, and has revealed that 2,000 4G users had already signed up.

TogoCel’s 4G coverage will reach Tsevié, Atakpamé, Sokodé and Dapaong by the end 2018.  The company is aiming to have 40% coverage in Togo by 2022. The company has announced target speeds of 100-150 megabits/second.

In an interview with Jeune Afrique, Cina Lawson, Togo’s Communications Minister, has announced ambitious goals: no Togolese consumer will be more than 5 km away from a high-speed internet access point by 2030. And within 3 years, mobile operators will have improved their network such that all subscribers receive at least 3G coverage.
