Togolese manufacturer Top Food is building a $9.43m factory in Cameroon

Togolese dairy and fruit juice manufacturer Top Food is building a new $9.43m factory in Cameroon. The new factory will produce condensed milk and fruit juice, and comes as the Cameroonian government offers incentives for manufacturers investing in the country.

Lomé-based Top Food has signed an agreement with the Cameroonian government to invest in a new factory in Cameroon. Top Food plans to invest XAF5.5bn ($9.43m) and employ 110 staff at the factory.

Top Food was launched in 2010 and opened its first sweetened condensed milk factory in September 2011 and owns the TopSaho, Baba Lait, Dembo Lait and Bamba brands. It is part of the TOPSAHO Group, established in Togo since 1998.

Its Cameroonian subsidiary will benefit from tax and customs exemptions for between 5 and 10 years, based on investment incentives first legalised in 2013, and then revised in 2017. Trade promotion agency Investir au Cameroun claims that 224 agreements have been signed with investors, generating 74,0000 jobs.

Companies operating factories in Cameroon include Ferrero, which opened its plant in 2005.  Nestlé
opened a new $5m production unit for its range of Nido fortified powdered milk in 2018. In 2019, Chinese group Sunda announced the construction of a $10.3m nappy factory in Yaoundé.
